THIS IS THE OFFICIAL LOGO FOR THE TRAMPOLINING SOCIETY AT UNIVERSITY OF WINCHESTER, CALLED ‘WINCHESTER FALCONS’. THE OFFICIAL MASCOT OF THE TEAM IS THE EAGLE AND THEIR COLOR IS NAVY BLUE . THEIR PREFERENCE WAS IN A AMERICAN SPORTS LOGO , THEREFORE HERE IS THEIR FAVOURITE OFFICIAL LOGO WHICH THEY ARE MORE THAN HAPPY WITH !
In order to start my first sketches I had to do a certain amount of research in terms of the style of the logo, which was american sport style as requested by the client. The second kind of research consisted in researching the looks of the animal both when it stays in one place, when it flies and the features of the face. I also tried to find certain features that distinguish the bird from the others.
The images bellow show my favourite options from my research. Feel free to click on them to have a closer look
RESEARCH AMERICAN STYLE LOGO
RESEARCH HOW THE ANIMAL LOOKS
More over the next step consisted in putting all my ideas on paper. I was mostly inspired by the the Falcon’s wings when flying and face. I tried to make the body more dynamic as in sports logos that is an important element along with a strong look.
My third step was developing my ideas in Illustrator and playing with colours, fonts and new elements I would think about in the process.
I tried to find strong and sportive fonts so it can stand out with the strong design element of the bird as well.
I started was given freedom over the colours as well and I chose Purple, Blue and Yellow as Purple is complementary colours to Yellow, and I didn’t want to use more than those three colours as it would be too much which is why i didn’t use Red, the complementary colour to blue.
Bellow you can see my different versions of each idea, using either different fonts, colours or changing the composition a little bit, in order to see the difference in the designs and choose a favourite, but of course the Society chose their favourite.
The society was very pleased by the designs seen i the last image and asked me to do versions of those two with tiny differences in order to choose a favourite.

4. CONCLUSION & FINAL DESIGN
The final design chosen is the one you can see bellow . The client found a favourite one from the start therefore I didn’t have to make any changes and just to prepare it for them such as sending everything in a google drive folder in PNG, JPG, PDF and Illustrator type of files.
The client really enjoyed the “wings” I added to the shield in the design which I didn’t even realized looked like the form of a wing as I was just trying to make the logo more complete and more sportive and dynamic but in the end it had a really good effect on the design and the final outcome as it made the client really happy.
GROUP PICTURE TIME WITH NEW LOGO, NEW T-SHIRTS AND ONLINE SHOUT OUT FOR MY WORK !
For this project I was asked to make another sports logo for the Tennis Society using a jaguar as that is their representative animal because of their speed and agility which they need in their games.
I was not given any colours to use and therefore I was given the freedom to choose it myself . I decided straight away that the main colour will be an energetic orange as it is the main colour it represents the jaguars in animations, but taking a look back I would make it a combination between yellow and orange. The second colour I thought about was a blue-purple ish kind of colour as purple is a complementary colour to the orange. The name they wanted to show on the logo was “Winchester Jaguars”.
I didn’t think straight away to add the tennis racket in the logo, the idea came when trying to add again “wings”around the shield didn’t look good that the client liked from the Winchester Falcons Society, Here you can see the final logo for the winchester tennis society entitled ‘winchester jaguars’ .
I chose to use as the main colors orange and a blue-violet as it makes a strong contrast between the main two colors . as both of them are already strong colors, the only other colours i chose to go with were white and black which also helps in focusing the attention on the head and name .
1. RESEARCH & INSPIRATION
I decided to devide my research in two categories. One for the style the client wanted the logo in, and one for the animal features research.
AMERICAN SPORT LOGO STYLE RESEARCH & INSPIRATION
I did not just research jaguar sport logo ideas but also other felines like the panther and so on, in order to see better the difference in the features between them and their similarities.
As a common element was the way they looked dynamic and strong even if it was just the head of the animal. This was because of an aggresive face, multiple colour outlines and strong colour and fonts. Which is what i tried to apply on my logo as well.
JAGUAR ( ANIMAL) RESEARCH FEATURES OF THE ANIMAL
In order to make sure I decide the right animal I had to do a certain amount of research on their anatomy and distinctive features, which will apply to my design as I will show in my development section.
I concentrate my research on the head of the animal as I noticed that animal logos in sport are usually represented by just the head of the animal as it looks bigger and stronger even if it is on a small scale.
The second step in the design process was of course sketching my ideas in order to be able to see the design composition overall and choose favourites in order to save time and not dully design all my designs which takes time. I really liked my first idea from the image in the left and my middle idea from the image in the center, which are the ones I designed.
I would have designed more options but sadly I had a week to design and in that week I also had a lot of university projects and may hours at work, at that moment as well.
As you will be able to see I gave up the wings as I didn’t think it looked good and that is when the racket idea came to mind which I tried in Illustrator as you will see in my
3. DEVELOPMENT & DESIGN IDEAS
THE JOURNEY IN ILLUSTRATOR
HERE YOU CAN SEE MY DEVELOPED IDEAS IN ILLUSTRATOR.
I TRIED TO PLAY WITH FORMS AS I WAS ASKED TO OFFER A SHIELD BEHIND THE JAGUAR AS I DID IN THE PREVIOUS LOGO FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF WINCHESTER FALCONS SOCIETY AND PLACING THE TENNIS RACKET AROUND THE JAGUAR . MY CLIENTS AND MY FAVORITE PLACEMENT FOR THE RACKETS WHERE IN IT’S MOUTH AS IT DRIVES EVEN MORE ATTENTION TO THE CENTER OF THE LOGO.
ELEMENT CREATED SEPARATE IN ILLUSTRATOR
I created it using the Rectangle tool for the lines in the circle and Rounded Rectangle Tool for the bottom. I used pictures of rackets so I make sure I am creating an authentic flat design option for it.
4. CONCLUSION & FINAL DESIGN
As a conclusion I am happy the client found a design he liked in the short amount of time given. As I was supposed to have one week to prepare and then it changed to one day as something came up and they needed it straight away. Luckily I had the entire day off but I wish I would have had more time so I could have made at least one more design option and give more attention to details. For example I would have done what you can see on the image on the right, so the title can be seen easier and not “struggle”so much to be seen (with the right font that I do not have on my new laptop) :
THE TENNIS SOCIETY AT FRESHERS FAYRE SHOWING OFF THEIR NEW LOGO 🙂
TREATMENTS WITH DARCIE
This is a special project of mine as I made it for a special and magical friend as you can see from the logo itself. This was a fairly easy and fun project as I knew the person really well that is why I managed to create a logo that she loved quite quickly in comparison to other projects .
It was also my first Logo client project I did therefore it has a lot of sentimental value.
I devided my research in three parts as throughout my project my client told me different things while delivering her Logo designs. First I was told about her business that consisted in card readings, meditation and spiritual healing, which is what I researched into and created designs for. Secondly I was told as feedback that she is looking into something related to the feminine Goddesses as that’s what she practices and thirdly as I was told the client just wants a Logo with a mermaid and in general blue and violet colours.
Research Card readings and meditation cards existing logos
My first research consisted in card reading, meditation and healing as that is what the client told me about their business. The pictures bellow show what cough my eye in my research.
Research Goddess symbols and creating mood boards on Pinterest
My second research consisted in researching about the Goddess and feminine Goddesses . I used Google images for research in general and Pinterest for mood boards. I was also suggested to look into the symbol of the Goddess.
Research mermaid logos, inspiration and mood board
My third research was about mermaids as my client told me in the end she is looking for a logo that has a mermaid as that’s what she likes, having the colours blue or purple or both.
I first researched in drawing of mermaids and secondly I research other logos with mermaids. The pictures bellow represent my research and inspiration for my designs.
Based on my research here are my sketches. The reason why they look so different is because the ideas from the owner changed 3 times as well. I chose from the the design ideas I believed would go the best with what the client wanted and had the best design composition.
At first while searching into spiritual readings and meditation the symbol of the water lily kept showing up which inspired me to create designs based on. Even my first logo was inspired based on that but it has a more super realistic design approach. Then I tried to incorporate meditation and the water lily in the same composition hoping it answers the brief. Thirdly I also tried to combine the water lily form to the symbol of the Goddess hoping I am getting close to what the client is looking for. In the end my client finally told me she just wants her logo to include a mermaid which I loved designing as it was a favorite subject of mine as a child.
The Software used was Illustrator as that is the best Software for Logo design. And the main tool used was the Pen tool. I also used galaxy and water colour background as texture of my forms in order to make it more interesting. Sadly as my laptop completely broke in the summer I do not have the development of the logo designs in Illustrator, but you will see in this page how my design development looks like.
Furthermore, I also tried to see how my new favourite logo look like with different fonts in order to speed the process and make it easier for the client to know what style she prefers.
OTHER DESIGN IDEAS DEVELOPED
The mermaid that also makes the form of a circle was both mine and my clients favourite as it also has the symbol of the Goddess through the form the mermaid creates.
4. CONCLUSION AND FINAL DESIGN
As a conlusion for this project I love the final designs, even if me personally I would have chosen a more modern font, I still like the final outcome.
As challenges I faced would`be the client not being straight forward with what she wants and giving me new requests after every feedback for a different kind of logo which made the process a bit slower but in the end it was worth it because I really loved the mermaid idea.
MATERIAL USED FOR THE FACEBOOK COVER PHOTO, WEBSITE, BACK OF THE BUSINESS CARD AND OTHER NEEDS OF THE CLIENT
BACKGROUND AND ABOUT
It was lovely working for A different beast and creating their Brand by creating their Logo that will represent them from now on. It was an interesting journey going from a ‘cerberus’ kind of design idea , to using the scratch idea on the letter that you can see now in the final design.
Following that I was also asked to design the outline and the simple fake 3D-ish look of football shoes that will be used in the future by the company through different projects.
WINCHESTER BOXING SOCIETY
For this project the brief received consisted in creating a logo for the Winchester Boxing Society. At first I was given complete freedom over fonts used, composition and colours used. That will later change in terms of composition as the client will inform me of the position he wants the man to have.
Software used like in any other logo projects I had is Adobe Illustrator and the main tool used is the Pen tool.
This is the final logo chosen by the Boxing team that is going to represent them from now on. Their main colors from now on will be red, black and white . This project gave me a lot of joy since my father used to be a boxer too ! 😉
In order to start my design I first had to research in the style the client asked for which was again an american sport logo kind of style. I was free to chose any colour but from what I noticed in my research the usual colours used are red and blue and therefore I decided to go with these colours as well.
Furthermore besides searching on sports logos online I also decided to research into the most popular moves of the sport that I could later use in my design. Besides understanding the moves, anatomy of the body, this research also served for understanding the environment of the sport therefore giving me a mood board just by looking at the pictures(which you can see bellow). That is why I didn’t use Pinterest for creating my mood board,as what I found on Google images was more than enough for me.
RESEARCH AMERICAN STYLE BOXING LOGO & INSPIRATION
RESEARCH BOXING POSITIONS FOR MY BODY ANATOMY STUDY
My second step,as a natural progression was sketches. Which were created based on my research and my imagination. The first mage show my first ideas which I also developed in Adobe Illustrator and the second image represent the sketches after the feedback from the client. I learned to know the client actually already had an idea in mind, which is why in my second try I tried to deliver exactly that.
Below you can see my development i Adobe Illustrator. I used the Pen Tool to create the forms and tried to stick to three colours in each design (in this case red, black and white.
I used the following images as inspiration for the body but gave a more cartoonish look.

4. CONCLUSION & FINAL DESIGN
PERFORMANCE ARTS WINCHESTER
I had the pleasure to completely rebrand the Performance Arts Winchester biggest society of University of Winchester that includes Dancing, Acting, Singing and Theater Tech. Which is what I was asked to do. Implement all 4 elements of the society into a logo, having the colour gold, black and white. As well as having an option on white and black background which meant changing the colour of the text.
After considerate research as you can see above I started sketching ideas that would have in consideration all the 4 elements in equal amounts. Therefore I tried to avoid making an element (representing the arts presented-singing, acting, dancing, scene tech) more important than the other as this logo needs to represent all parts of the Winchester Arts equaly.
My second step relied in starting to sketch based on what inspired me in my research. I found it a little bit difficult including the Theater Tech but in the end I managed to find a solution by creating a scene as a symbol for that element.
Overall I enjoyed creating the sketches as I had a lot of ideas.
3. DEVELOPMENT & DESIGN IDEAS
I created the Logo designs in Adobe Illustrator specific for logo designs. My main tool was again the Pen Tool as it helps me create the forms I want and even add a fake lightening effect by adding lighter forms on my designs imitating the reflection of the light in a flat design style.
I chose to go with a gold option as it looks more important, prestigious and important which I think shows admiration to the arts the logo represents.
I tried to show you how I created the lightening and shadowing flat design effect using the Pen Tool in Adobe Illustrator. As you can see on top sometime I would not manage to follow my design exactly so I would have to add more layers in order to completely cover the chosen area ( image 2).
In order to have a better understanding of my design process I created a step by step presentation of my design process when it comes to developing the Logo. First I have the inspiration and research, followed by sketching the idea that i came up with based on that research and developing it in the chosen Software.
SELECTING A FONT & FINAL DESIGN DETAILS
My last step when working with clients is adding the last details to the logo they chose to go with. In this case it was the font. Therefore I presented the logo with different types of fonts for P.A.W(Performance Arts Winchester) as the head of the society wanted to have just the initials on the logo.
But after the client received the logo on a larger scale to take a better look at it before I prepare it for him , I was also asked to move the “W” more close to the dot and because the font wouldn’t allow me to. I created another text with just the “W”and positioned it at the same distance to the dot as the other letters. As a last request I gave up the dots and just left he initials of the society’s name which you will see in my conclusion and final design solutions section.
The client’s favourite was the 5th one from the first row, which I later prepared for black/white background, PNG, JPG,PDF and Ilustrator option.
4. CONCLUSION AND FINAL DESIGN SOLUTIONS
These are the final solutions I created for the client. Considering that they would use the logo both on light and dark posters and different colour hoodies I had to create different version for the specific background and therefore I have these two which the client agreed to. The logo looks amazing on the hoodies of the society as well.
For white background
For black background
SEPARATE ORIGINAL ELEMENTS FOR EACH ART FOR FUTURE USE OF THEIR DIFFERENT PROJECTS
I was also asked to take each element separate and prepare it for the client as it would be useful for future projects that might just refer to one or two of the arts they have and therefore I created dark and white background versions for that aswell.
Below you can see their facebook page promoting their new rebrand !
WINCHESTER BOOK SOCIETY
My first task for this society relied in creating a logo for it. At first I was told to create the logo having the following text “UOW Book Society” which I completely finished as a logo and cover photo for their Facebook page, but the client apparently didn’t do any research regarding the logo and I was told to take the UOW out as the societies belong to the Student Union.
Therefore that made be waste quite a bit of my time and I had in the end to redesign the logo and the client chose to go with a different logo which fits better with two words in its composition instead of three.
FACEBOOK COVER PHOTO
For the cover photo task I was given completely freedom in terms of design and colours to use, and therefore I though about adding an image showing what the society is about which is relaxing while reading books which is a wonderful activity. The only milestone was changing the logo on the final design chosen as the project was ready before the client discussed with the Student Union about it and therefore I had to redo the design.
In terms of research I looked into other examples of logo involving books in their composition and I tried to come up with my own ideas from all this research. What you can see bellow are my favourite designs in terms of the looks of the book, idea, composition and so on .
Followed by my research I started sketching what ideas I would came up with, now that I had a better idea towards the looks of the logo in that subject. I tried to come up with my own book design compositions and integrated the text I was asked to add in the design composition.
For my development I used Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop as well when redesigning the logo based on a new unexpected feedback. In this project I did manage to create quite a lot of my sketches into finished designs as the forms were easy to design. Following that I was just playing around in the Software with the colours and fonts and trying to see which suits the logo better. Having to redesign the logo was quite a challenge as I had to redo the entire work essentially but at least I did manage to gain more skills and works in m portfolio.
In my first two pictures you can see how I was trying to change my design based on the new request of changing the name of the society which for me it was quite challenging as most of my composition were created with the idea of the 3 texts in mind and changing it to two did not go so well in my designs which is why I started creating other ones over again. On the new ones I tried to concentrate more on the words as I loved creating compositions just by changing the form of the texts in Photoshop. The reason why I learn so much new skills when I create multiple designs is because I always try to do something different as I get bored easily if I keep doing the same thing over again. Which is why now I started using Photoshop too to transform the text using the Wrap tool, skill that I used in my packaging design as well.
SECOND TASK : COVER PHOTO FOR FACEBOOK
Design Options made in Adobe Photoshop
At first I chose to simply go with some water colour background as I wasn’t sure exactly what I want, and then played with the composition but still I was not satisfied and therefore I tried to research what other societies did . Sadly i could not find anything helpful, but while in me online research I keept seeing books and coffee lovely background and I suddenly felt inspired and decided to use such a background for the cover photo. I made sure the photo I chose to use was free an then playing with effects in Photoshop in order to give it different athmospehere. I also tried different ideas in the composition as you can see below in order to make it more interesting but I learned that somethimes less is better. The reason why the first designs are with the a different logo than the offical chosen is because at first that was the design chosen and after sending the entire project finished I was told that the society actually is not allowed to add UOW as I was told to do and therefore this is why only the final designs have the final logo on them using the background the society chose with the previous logo.
4. CONCLUSION AND FINAL DESIGN
In the end this is the final design choose and approved by the members of the society and University of Winchester. Even if this project had to last longer than usual because of the misunderstanding from the captain of the society it was still fun to design this as I read a lot of book with my friends growing up and therefore I used those memories as well for inspiration if myself had the opportunity to join such a society.
The project as you know had some milestones in terms of redesigning the logo and changing my design compositions to fit two words instead of three as I was told at first and until I completely finished the task, but in the end I am happy with what I came up with as it is a nice and original design.
This also served for a lot of practice which as a growing designer in the industry it was much needed and also for experience as sometimes unpredictable things happen and I have to find the time to solve the problem, by going and doing projects at University and working part time at the same time while doing client projects helped me learn to manage my time better and set my priorities straight “what is more important to me? going out, having a day off to finally relax or keep working to gain experience, skills and a good portfolio for my future? ” In the end I chose the last element. And I believe that even if it was quite difficult working always on something without having one single day off, it was still worth it for my experience and eventually future opportunities.
OFFICIAL FACEBOOK COVER -purple overlay effect as it goes very well with the purple from the logo.
WINCHESTER JUDO SOCIETY
For this project I had to design a logo for the Winchester Judo Society that would represent them from now on.
For the brief I was asked to design a logo and show if I have time more colour options as the captain of the society did not have one in mind at the time. My research will soon help me find a specific colour used in this sport, but still made more colour options as the client wished so.
I was given completele freedom over my design but I was also send some inspiration from what the client liked from what he saw online. Which is where I first started from and moved on with my design process, but it is always good to know what your client is interested into as it helps you choose better your design ideas.
My first step in my research progress consisted in looking into popular moves of the sport and other logo already on the market. I did not manage to find any decent ones when I was looking into societies of this kind but typing “judo logo”was way more helpful in terms of design as I had better quality ones to get inspired from. What I noticed was the main colours of this sport used, which were red, black, blue and white . This is the reason why I chose to try those colour but for the client as he did not know what colours he wants for the society I also desinged other colour versions.
Another element I noticed was the representation of always two persons fighting each other and a circle around the logo which seems to be a specific trend in the sport.
RESEARCH THE HUMAN BODY AND MOVES
My second research consisted in studying the sport most popular moves and how the body looks like as it would difficult to imagine I would have to use images of specific moves in order to get the body right using the Pen tool in Illustrator when developing the chosen logo ideas. The ones presented bellow represent my favourite ones in terms of composition and body position as I was looking into positions that show all body parts of the body as I was going to choose a flat design for my design approach of the logo and therefore I needed dynamic but simple to look at positions. The viewer can know right away what is happening in the logo.
After I consider that I have enough research and ideas in mind I start sketching them on my sketchbook and try to imagine how they would look like developed in Adobe Illustrator, my favourite program to create logos. While looking at them I consider composition, how unique/innovative it is, how well does it respond to the client’s brief and as a designer how much I personally like them.
Even if I do have an artistic talent I do not waste my extremely busy time with detailed sketches as nobody can know exactly how it will look like developed besides me (in my head) and therefore that is the reason I only have rough sketches. I simply need them in order to compare ideas based on the reasons mentioned above and as part of the design journey.
Sadly my laptop broke and I lost my Google account as well and therefore I do not own the Illustrator files for the logo designs in order to show a more developed design process.
But the process is exactly like the ones from my other design journeys. I used my research for inspiration and then started sketching my ideas and choosing to develop my favourite ones. I was choosing my favourties in terms of overall composition, how close it is to the brief and how I would see it in a final development in Adobe Illustrator. Which is why I didn’t design all my sketches.
4. CONCLUSION AND FINAL DESIGN
Below you can see the final design option the team captain choose. They really liked the design straight away, i wasn’t asked to make any other alterations or try different fonts.
The circle around the main element is inspired by other circle design as it helps balance the composition and bring the attention of the viewer to the center of the circle while offering support and more dimension to the design composition. I cut the circle in the middle is a slight reminder of the belt that people practicing this sport are wearing on their uniform, which is very important in sports involving martial arts as it shows the lever of expertise of each person. Which is why in other designs I coloured the belt in another colour but I decided that I am adding way too much details and the client agreed with that and choose this design option.
The client received in the end the file in PNG, JPG, PDF and Illustrator file folders with maximum quality.

WINCHESTER CRICKET BEARS
The captain of the society contacted be over Facebook as he heard about my other logo design I have made so far and asked for a logo for the Winchester Cricket Bears Society focusing on the bear figure in the logo.
I was told to show if I am able, some colour options as they are unsure what would go well with the colour of the bear and that I am free to design what compositions I want as long as it has a bear and the name of the Society in it.
For my research I had to divide my design in 3 parts as I needed to have knowledge in other bear logo designs on the market, what is the sport’s teams preferences, research how the head of the animal looks like in terms of anatomy, features that are differentiating it from other animals and anatomy for the body in case I would like to do a design with the entire body as well. Based on my research and sport’s team preferences in general I chose to design the head of the bear as it is more commonly used in sport teams and the common design style is flat design .
RESEARCH THE HEAD OF THE ANIMAL
Researching into what others did when drawing a bear, as well as making myself more familiar with the features of the animal that I would later create in my own style(but in american sports logo design a requested by the client).
RESEARCH THE BODY OF THE BEAR IN NATURE
In order to gain more knowledge about the anatomy of the bear , focusing on features that are specific to the animal, I would later transform those in a flat design kind of style .
RESEARCH THE SPORT AND THE UTENSILS
In order to have a more complete research and overall understanding of the subject so I can come up with right ideas for the brief I had to research the sport it is about as I had almost no knowledge about it. In general i was looking at the way it was played, the utensils used and uniforms as I thought it might be helpful in mhy design.
RESEARCH OTHER CRICKET LOGOS
Even if I had enough knowledge about the subject I still felt the need in researching what other practitioners in the industry made and also hoped that it would maybe inspire me as well. Even if in the end I didn’t find any Logo I particularly liked it was still good as it made my research more in depth.
My second step was naturally developing sketches based on my research and inspiration that made me come up with deign ideas. It was a bit of a challenge for me as it was difficult for me to make a sport cartoonish head of a bear which is one of the reasons I don’t have many sketches .
On the sketches presented on top you can see how I was placing different options of elements around the logo in order to see what would go better with it. In the second picture it can be seen different types of tongues, eyes and eyebrows and in the third one different kind of shields. In the developing section you will see what choices I made from what I simply thought looked better.
Bellow you can see my design options I created. Because the client didn’t had a specific colour in mind I was asked to deliver options in multiple colours that they would later choose from and make those their official colours. This is the reason I have the same design made in different colours on some compositions.
4. CONCLUSION & FINAL DESIGN
This project is still going as the final design hasn’t been chosen at the moment. My personal favourites are the ones bellow because they look dynamic enough and yet have a nice form of the shapes, not being too sharp. As well as looking the most as a bear as designing the features in flat design style it was quite difficult for me for an unknown reason. The colour option I would chose from the designs on the right are green because it goes well with the brown, it is a more masculine colour and from my research I didn’t see other societies from University of Winchester having it.
WINCHESTER POLE FITNESS SOCIETY
Winchester Fitness Society requested a logo that represents their society. They did not have a composition or idea in mind besides something that includes person and a pole.
I was told by the Social Media Captain to use colours that represent the university or similar options, and if I wanted to add something else I was free to do so. Element which changed from the team captain when delivered the design options. I was also told to add Winchester or University of Winchester in the logo as well.
My last feedback requested now to add a male figure as well in the logo to include more diversity.
Elements which made me waste quite a bit of time because I asked about the colours, ideas in mind, and the full name of their society they want on the logo and I was told nothing about it until I wasted many weeks of work.
For my research I searched popular moves in pole fitness, which many I knew about as I am part of the society. And then as part of my selection I tried to choose the ones that would look good in my design composition.
I divided my research in three parts. Female body moves and anatomy, logo research and male pole fitness body positions.
FEMALE BODY MOVES & ANATOMY
First of all I had to research body positions and especially the most popular ones as people interested in pole fitness want to recognize them instantly and know exactly what the society is about. The pictures below represent what I liked in my research and what I thought could use a a move for the logo.
From them then I chose three I was going to develop, which i thought would make the best design composition as I will present in the Development section.
My second step in my research consisted in researching what others did and get inspired from there. I looked into colours, compositions, fonts used and mostly in the relation between the text and design element as that is what I was struggling with after my second feedback told me to add more text in my logo. Even if most title have one or two words it still served for good inspiration.
MALE BODY POSTIONS
I had to undergo this research as on my second feedback I was suddenly asked to include a male in the design as well which requires extra research as their muscles are formed different than on females and they also have different popular moves.
But I also had to consider what would go better in terms of design composition with my favourite design that was perfect for two individuals on the pole. In the development section you are going to see me process.
Following my research the next step naturally was sketching some rough ideas. I would generally use the anatomy of the body from a move a liked and turned it into a logo idea, which later on I developed using Adobe Illustrator and trying similar design options for each design ideas, following by trying different fonts on my favourite designs, in order to make the design process faster by showing them in general how the logo would look like with different kind of fonts.
3. DEVELOPMENT OF THE LOGO DESIGN IDEAS
Developing the logo for this society took quite a while even if we would meet once a week as I am part of it. As after my first and also second developed designs I sent I was given feedback that would change elements in the design sometimes quite drastically just like in my last feedback, which wouldn’t be a problem except that I did ask about certain colours, fonts, text, ideas and elements they would want and I was told that they don’t have any idea in mind I am free to design what I desire and use some similar colours to the ones from university or even add some new ones, which changed after f each feedback.
Communication was also quite difficult sometimes taking days or weeks to reply, even after I would also send some reminding messages, which is why this took an entire semester in comparison with the other logo projects I have done. Feedback was hard to receive and when I did receive it in the end I would be told completely new information and requests I was unaware of even if I asked before about those elements. Events I was not used with as I did do work for many other societies and I never experienced such delays and so many changes of mind. But hopefully my third attempt of designing is on the two clients taste.
-changes of ideas after each feedback
-really hard to have responses or feedback from the team’s captain and social media captain.
-sending a bit more messages reminding them (without overstepping my boundaries) to look over the logo options which made them more responsive
-asking more details on my second feedback again, so i don’t have to redesign different logo options again.
Below you can see the process from the first design ideas developed in Illustrator to the last and favourite ones.
You will see design options that look the same but have different fonts as I wanted to give the captains different font examples from the start in order to speed the project.
Based on my first brief in which I was told to use colours close to the university and that I am also free to use other colours my first designs had a darker purple and black. The text would remain the same as they have for the society which was Pole Fitness Society. In terms of elements I was just told to use a female and a pole. But I also did a design with two females as it looked very balanced and elegant( my idea came to mind seeing a position in my research ).
Based on my second feedback things changed quite dramaticaly as I was now told to only use the colours from the university (which I was not given the University Guidelines for and therefore I had to copy the university logos and use the pick tool from Photoshop in order to find the exact code colour). I was also told to also add a masculine figure, element which would now change my logo completely and do extra research into not only male pole fitness moves but also their anatomy involving their muscles in those positions.
I was also told to now change the text as well to either University of Winchester, or just add Winchester with the Pole Fitness or Pole Fitness Society which again changed my logo composition as now I have to add more text which for me was quite a challenge. I tried to add UOW for University of Winchester design options ad Winchester as it involves less words and therefore easier to design composition ideas.

4. CONCLUSION AND FINAL DESIGN SOLUTION AFTER FEEDBACK
The client is still in the progress to choose the logo which will be announced in the second semester of this academic year 2019-2020.
For me personally my favourite ones are the ones bellow as in terms of the composition, elements work really well with each other. I even personalized the font too in order to make sure everything is original. In the first one I really like how it gives you the feeling of a society logo because of the shield around it, but on the second one I like how it looks more modern and reminds me of the University design style using on one of the fonts, the University Guideline font (Railway font).
